Do Eggs Cause Heart Disease?

It seems that almost every day I am asked by someone if eggs are healthy to eat. They wonder if eating too many yolks specifically will put them at risk for a heart attack or stroke.

And, my answer is always the same: "If you eat a diet with low to no processed foods, plenty of plant products (fruits, vegetables, beans, greens), unprocessed oils, hormone-free meats and dairy, and avoid chemical additives, you can eat eggs daily and be even healthier than ever".

A couple of years ago I did an experiment on myself where I ate a two egg omelette every day for about 3 months straight. It was good timing as it was time to get my blood work checked at around the end of that 3 months. Cholesterol came out great and saw a really good increase in my HDL as well. So eggs don't scare me.:)

People who are eating according to the China Study (Campbell & Campbell) avoid eggs completely. This is because the China Study used computers to associate cancer and the eating of meat protein, including chicken, based on the health data of the various counties in China.

I have always felt that the egg is not like meat protein. There was a case of an elderly man living alone who ate eggs exclusively, up to a dozen a day, for years. When he was tested, his cholesterol was normal and he was in good health.

Is it possible that Campbell was unable to separate the eating of chicken meat and the eating of eggs because people who have access to chicken eggs would have access to chicken meat also and have no reason not to eat both.

Perhaps Campbell decided to play it safe and advise his readers to avoid both. To me the egg is a giant vitamin pill and is my primary source of protein. It is the only food I consume which does not make feel drowsy, like meat and pasta does.
